Holland is a small unincorporated community located in Josephine County, about 8 miles southeast of Cave Junction in the scenic Illinois Valley. Founded around 1877 by pioneer James E. Holland, the town long served miners and settlers drawn by southern Oregon’s gold rush. At its height, Holland supported a hotel, a creamery, a telephone exchange, and functioned as a crucial hub for miners in Josephine and Curry counties. A few buildings—including the old store and post office—stand as silent witnesses to its vibrant past.
