Experiencing a case of June Gloom? I don’t think so! Once again, I have a slew of Out & About suggestions for June ranging from culinary, arts, musical performances, family outings, adventure seekers (or viewers) and more. Let’s take a look at how the month can play out... in order.
Wet your whistle at the annual weeklong Medford Beer Week extravaganza from June 12-20. This is a city wide celebration of the craft beer industry, focused on local and regional craft beers. With an event for every day of the week, my personal favorite is the marquee event, Brews Burgers and Bluegrass, located at Eden Vale Winery on June 13. Here, you can go to one location for 12 different breweries available at your leisure, local ranchers serving their burgers, and eight hours of foot-stomping bluegrass music! The last day of the festival will end in Old Town Medford (between Bartlett and Main) with the Southern Oregon Craft Brew Festival. From 12-8 p.m. there will be over 25 breweries, over 40 beers, food booths and more.
From June 14 through 20, the annual Rat Race Paragliding Competition is held in the Applegate Valley above the Woodrat Mountain. Known as the “picturesque, world-renowned flying site,” this mountain is home to many hang gliders and para gliders both local and national. I can only guess that the acres of beautiful orchards, wineries, mountains, rivers and streams could be the main contributors…or maybe it is that after a long day of flying the competitors can still land just feet from a winery. You better believe that I will be one of many sipping wine at one of the four wineries on the last day of the competition, watching those brave souls soar above me. Heck, maybe this will encourage me to plan my next adventure as a tandem flyer!
On June 20, Britt Music & Arts Festival presents a spectacular light show paired with the groovy Pink Floyd. Other Britt performances you will find later this month consist of Smash Mouth blowing up the audience with their garage and pop music blend, one of the greatest rock and roll era bands Chicago, and good ol' Texas country legend Willie Nelson with opener Alison Krauss.
Lastly, the Southern Oregon Lavender Festival is held the last weekend in June. From June 26-28, the English Lavender Farm will be open all day awaiting your arrival and ready to showcase over 4,000 lavender plants. What can be lovelier than enjoying your day picking your own bouquets and sampling local handcrafted lavender products? If you have not already done so, I urge you to try their lavender rosemary honey ice cream and get Pinterest ready for some shortbread lavender cookie recipes.
The owners Sue and Derek and their golden retriever Cooper (how cute is he) will also be awaiting your arrival, and I can vouch that this tripod alone is worth the short drive out to their truly English farm.
