The South
Umpqua Valley - On Interstate 5, 40 miles north of Grants Pass - is where the
South Umpqua River and Cow Creek run by the historic towns of Canyonville, Riddle,
Tri City, Myrtle Creek and Days Creek. All these rural towns were originally along
the famed Applegate Trail. They all offer a wonderful glimpse of rural life in
Oregon. Restaurants, motels, a championship golf course, a pioneer/Indian museum,
shopping, a veteran’s memorial, and an Indian gaming center can all be found in
this area. Visitor activities include covered bridge viewing, fishing, hiking,
boating and camping.
This is an area steeped in timber and mining history
just off of I-5 at Exits 103 and 108. Camping, shopping, historic houses, hiking,
fishing and swimming are all part of the unique flavor of the area. It's home
to Summer Festival (last full weekend in July), South Douglas Rodeo (third weekend
in June), and Lighted Truck Parade (second weekend in December). Boasting a beautiful
park system teeming with features like a band shell, an RV Park, and recreational
spots fields.
