The Illinois Valley is located between
Grants Pass and the Coast along Highway 199. If you’re headed from Grants Pass
to “America’s Wild Rivers Coast,” you’ll drive straight through the scenic Illinois
Valley.
After passing Lake Selmac, one of Oregon’s finest state parks, you
will pass several botanical wonders, from fields of carnivorous Cobra Lilies to
meadows of wild flowers found nowhere else in the world. The Valley’s top attraction
is the Oregon Caves National Monument and the historic Chateau at the Oregon Caves.
High mountain lakes, wild rivers, aromatic firs, pines and cedars, and countless
miles of hiking and biking trails provide additional recreational offerings.
The
Illinois Valley is also the home of several wineries.
A rich history of mining and logging blends well with the recent arrival of artists
and crafters.
Cave Junction, located 30 miles southwest of Grants Pass on
Highway 199, is a colorful small town offering access to the Oregon Caves, located
20 miles east of town off Highway 46. The wondrous Illinois River borders Cave
Junction on the west.
There are plenty of shops and other amenities available
in the town.
