Visit
Coos Bay, North Bend, and Charleston. Imagine miles of pristine, unspoiled beaches,

and explore the Oregon Dunes, or rent a sandboard to experience adventures you'll

out to sea to spy on migrating whales, take advantage of year-round fishing, or
do a bit of scuba diving.
Back
on land, tour a working forest or make a visit to the Prefontaine Memorial at
the Coos Art Museum. 24-hour gaming action can be found at the Mill Casino. Tour
the unique Myrtlewood factories, take a leisurely stroll through shops and antique
stores, and enjoy nature hikes, bird watching, and the gardens at Shore Acres
State Park. Come dinner time, enjoy fresh seafood at one of many fabulous restaurants,
or go crabbing for fresh Dungeness, and have it cooked for you on the docks!

Blanco Lighthouse
LIGHTHOUSES
ON OREGON'S ADVENTURE COAST
Umpqua River Lighthouse 19 miles N of North Bend off Hwy 101. First lighthouse
sited on Oregon Coast; originally built in 1857. Still operates as navigational
aid. Tours available during the summer months. 1-800-247-2155.
Cape Arago Lighthouse 12 miles SW of Coos Bay. Located 100 feet above the ocean
on an islet just off Gregory Point. Original structures built on this site in
1866 and 1908 were damaged by the weather and waves; current tower illuminated
in 1934. Still operates as a navigational aid, therefore no public access is available.
Listen for the unique fog horn. Great views from Bastendorff Beach County Park
and Oregon Coast Trail between Sunset Bay and Shore Acres State Parks.
Coquille River Lighthouse 20 miles S of Coos Bay off Hwy 101 at Bullard's Beach
State Park, Bandon. Built in 1896, decommissioned in 1939, and restored as interpretive
center in 1979. Open daily, Memorial Day-Labor Day. Volunteer interpreters offer
guided tours to tower. 541-347-2209. |
