The moods of Crater Lake, from the explosive sounds of its creation to the gentle stillness of a winter morning, were evoked in the world premiere of a musical composition called "Natural History."
That's how the Mail Tribune in Medford described the 25-minute piece by composer Michael Gordon performed July 29 and 30, 2016. Staged at the crater's edge, the performance featured the Britt Orchestra, a regional choir, the Chiloquin-based Steiger Butte Drum troupe and brass and percussion students from Southern Oregon University.
The Britt Music & Arts Festival commissioned the composition.
