Golden & Silver Falls State Natural Area
Located a half hour from Coos Bay at the end of Coos River Highway, Golden and Silver Falls is 24 miles off Highway 101. A small parking and picnic area is located along the banks of Glenn and Silver Creeks, set in an old-growth forest of Douglas fir, Big Leaf Maple and Oregon myrtle trees. Hiking trails wind through scenic canyons to each of the two waterfalls. Facilities include picnic tables, fire rings and a restroom. Bring your own drinking water. This park is a favorite for fishing, hiking, enjoying nature and solitude, and photography.
Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area
The Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area extends for 40 miles along the Oregon Coast, from Coos Bay to Reedsport. The largest expanse of coastal sand dunes in North America, offering numerous opportunities for adventure. Sand rail, motorcycle, 4x4, quad or guided trip riders are in for a treat. Year-round beach access, more than 30 lakes and ponds, and numerous streams for sailing, canoeing, water-skiing, swimming, scuba diving and fishing. Adventures and wonder are truly around every corner. The headquarters is at the junction of Hwy 101 and Hwy 38.
