MEDFORD – Travel Southern Oregon today announced it is one of 12 recipients of the Oregon Wine Country License Plates Matching Grants Program administered by Travel Oregon. The $10,000 grant will support a social media influencer tour that will focus on the wine and culinary experiences of Southern Oregon.

The tour will expose influential Instagrammers, bloggers and writers to Southern Oregon’s vast viticultural and culinary experiences, as well as associated cultural and recreational opportunities. The region’s destination marketing organizations as well as lodging and attractions will all be involved in helping to plan and execute the project and inspire the influencers.

The “Wine & Culinary Influencer Tour” will target influencers who can raise awareness of Southern Oregon’s unique wine destination and introduce potential visitors and interested consumers to the region.

“Southern Oregon is the fastest-growing wine region in the state, and we produce the greatest variety of wines,” said Carolyn S. Hill, CEO of Travel Southern Oregon. “Using influencers to talk to their followers is a way of pulling consumers into the conversation with us.”

For many years, media attention about wine in Oregon has been largely focused on Pinot Noir.

“There’s no doubt that the well-deserved fame of Pinot Noir has put Oregon on the wine map,” said Hill. “With this grant, we want to motivate consumers to actively seek out our destination because they have become so inspired by the messaging they follow. Consistent, high-quality, well-written digital and social media content, targeting the wine and culinary enthusiast, is a compelling need we have in order to communicate and extend the region’s wine and culinary brand.”

Through its Oregon Wine Country Plates Matching Grants Program, Travel Oregon helps advance wine and culinary tourism projects that improve local economies and communities by enhancing, expanding and promoting Oregon’s travel and tourism industry. Revenue generated by the sale of the Wine Country license plates funded the 2015/2016 grant awards cycle.
